Resolved: The
United
States should significantly increase its use of
nuclear energy.
It's time to start researching! This is definitely going to be an interesting topic. Pro will have to define nuclear energy use to their benefit. Citing information on rising gas prices and expert predictions about oil/alternative energy problems in the future will be a necessity. Con will want to prove that production of nuclear energy is harmful in multiple ways, if possible. They may also want to look for cost compared to other emerging sources of energy.
Either way, it'll be an good debate. Once practice starts and ideas start flowing there will be plenty of points to make on both sides.

Hello everyone! As website manager this year I have a few things to ask of you. If you aren't yet registered and are just reading these updates, you are not getting the full benefit of the website! Please register ASAP. If you would like to be in debate but have not attended the summer camps, please contact Mr. Nicolay in Portable 7, or find his email through the directory. For those of you who are registered, I would ask that you increase your participation in the website, it isn't a free service and so it's always nice to see it being used.
Furthermore, this year I would like to expand the photo gallery if possible. That requires a little bit of effort on your part. If you would like me not to include your picture in the gallery than please alert me of this through email. Those of you who have pictures from debate, whether it be tournaments, out-of-state or normal, or the summer camp, please help to expand the collection by emailing me those pictures!
As you should know (and hopefully all of you do) the school year is almost here. In fact when you are reading this, more likely than not it will be here. Anyone who is new to the program, around a week after school starts, we will hold a meeting to discuss practice times. Although we will try to cater to everyone's needs, there may be issues that we cannot work out. In this case, it might be best to talk to the event captain. The following is a list of the captain and which event they run:
Carly Johnson-Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Emily Harrell-Expository/Oratory
Jessica Freitas-Extemporaneous/Impromptu
Katherine Robinson-Public Forum
Rainie Nelson-Student Congress
Stephanie Hare-Dramatic Events (Including D/I, Duo, and H/I)
If you have questions or need some extra help, post on the website or contact one of the captains.
For those of you with scripted events, I realize that Emily already sent out an email regarding Oratory/Expos, but I would like to echo what she wrote in saying that now is a better time than ever to look over those scripts again.
For the rest of you, I hope you've had a great summer! Now it's back to school and another exciting year of debate.
