If you have not been already notified, Snohomish High School will be closed tomorrow. As a result of this closure, we will NOT be attending UPS. If you could, please send an email to Nicolay alerting him of your acknowledgment of our situation. This needs to be done as soon as possible. Thank you!

(This message is from Nicolay, if you have any questions or comments, please email him. However, if you aren't sure why this is on the front page, it is simply because of the importance of out-of-state tournaments. There is a different pool of competition, and a greater chance for you to be inspired with new ideas for your pieces. It's a great way to improve yourself, and whether you are in novice or open, if you have the opportunity to go to these tournaments, do not turn it down. They're fun, interesting, a great bonding opportunity, a chance to see a college campus, and best of all, they usually have great competition so you'll be up for a consequentially great challenge. Don't miss out on this!)
Entry is now open for BERKELEY, which is in the San
Francisco/Oakland area. Entry closes on 1/12. You won't miss any
school on this one because it's during mid-winter break. We'll leave the
night of 2/12 (Thursday( and return the night of 2/15 (Sunday). You have
all day Monday to rest up, and Berkeley has a lot of down time between rounds
for homework. The current cost is $196 for plane fare, due 2/10, but keep
in mind that that can change a bit.
Berekely has all the events you're used to except
I/R. There is congress and junior and open level debate (no
novice). In speech, it's just open level. I would not
recommend it for someone who has competed in just a few tournaments, but a
strong novice will be fine there. The weather is normally about 20 degrees
warmer than here and we will probably have a bit of time to spend in San
Francisco. The area around Berkeley is pretty interesting in
itself.
Let me know if you want to go and in what
events. If you're doing debate, I'd recommend just one other speech
event---not two
